Registered Nurses Professional Association
POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (RNPA-PAC)

The Registered Nurses Professional Association - Political Action Committee (RNPA-PAC) was formed in 1993 to increase the influence of registered nurses, working throughout the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System (SCVHHS), in the political process. Moreover, the RNPA Board of Directors recognized that decisions are made at the local, state and federal levels that have a direct bearing on RNPA’s membership.

On the local front, it is the Board of Supervisors who directs the County’s response to RNPA’s contract demands as well as determines the future direction of the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System.

At the state level, the legislature shapes the way in which health care is delivered, determines scope of practice issues, arbitrates overtime eligibility and supports funding for public health programs and facilities. Decisions at the federal level directly impact our work lives as well.

Every year, the RNPA-PAC develops positions on legislation affecting registered nurses related to our work place, nursing practice and the delivery of patient care. In addition, the RNPA-PAC has collaborated with other local nursing organizations to fight for adequate staffing, limits on the use of unlicensed personnel, and scope of practice issues.

Furthermore, the RNPA-PAC has been active on the grassroots side of politics by working with individual legislators, elected officials, and writing letters on key issues.

During every election cycle the RNPA-PAC endorses candidates that support registered nurses, nursing practice and labor issues. The RNPA-PAC provides campaign contributions, volunteer support, and use of RNPA’s endorsement on approved campaign literature.

The RNPA-PAC meets the second Tuesday of the month at 3:30 P.M. and encourages any interested members to attend a meeting or join the PAC.
